I got a Judgment - What can I do with it?

So you got a Judgment, that's great.

But what happens when the defendant doesn't pay it? What can you do?

Well, one of the first things attorneys usually do is to file the Judgment with the State so it is recorded as a lien. In that way, if that person (or entity) ever tries to sell real property, it will come up in the title search as money they owe and money which must be paid for the sale to consummate.

Another thing attorneys will do is to get out an information subpoena. This is a discovery device which should update you on the defendant's assets and job. With that information you can go after their assets by way of levy and/or you can attempt to garnish their pay.

Those are the primary ways that the attack on Judgment starts but there are others including full fledged discovery complete with depositions for that recalcitrant defendant and that large Judgment!
